Ok, so thanks to Coronavirus it’s a whole new world all of a sudden.
And for many of us that means working a lot more from home.
Your home office set up might have been ok for the odd day here or there of working from home, but what about now?
Here are six tips for you to set your home office up well
Check the height of the desk and chair are ok
Hunching your shoulders because the chair is too low or the desk is too high is a common issue in makeshift work spaces. Ensure your arms are nestled comfortably onto the desk surface.
Get a decent chair with adequate back support
A stool or dodgy dining room chair might not cut it anymore. You need a chair with decent back support that allows you to recline slightly.
If you are used to a sit to stand desk at work, get one for home
There are lots of options – simple ones that sit on your desk and be packed away at the end of the day, through to whole desks that raise and lower with the touch of a button. They come in all shapes and sizes now. Ask us for more info if you are curious.
Don’t just work off a lap top screen alone
The surest way to develop a sore neck is to slump over a laptop in the turtle position for hours on end. A laptop riser like the Roost or the cheaper version the Nexstand are a must for lap top workers, combined with an external keyboard and mouse / track pad.
Separate yourself from the domestic part of the house
It’s hard to keep focused when you are staring at dirty dishes. Set yourself up where the family domestic life does not creep into your thinking too much.
Make sure your house is compliant with health and safety standards
Your employer has a duty of care to ensure your working environment promote health, safety and wellbeing. If you have been asked to work from home by your employer and don’t feel that your set up is up to scratch then let them know.
Start with the six tips above and review the online tools on our resource page that are there to guide you. if that’s not enough, then contact your manager to request a home office Ergo review.
PHW does Home Ergo reviews both face to face and remotely should you need us.
