We are breeding a generation of slumpers.
More and more people now predominantly use a laptop in their work or study and most of them are slumping in the turtle position when they use it. Not good.
Some simple awareness and a couple of bits of cheap equipment can make the world of difference.
1. Get a good laptop stand
The best designed one of these for years has been the Roost which cost around $90-100. However another product called the Nextstand (pictured) has recently come onto the market at half the price. These are both light weight products that fold up and down easily.
2. Get a keyboard and mouse/trackpad
These can be set up in front of the laptop stand and hey presto – you are set up well ergonomically. Ideally use a keyboard that does not have the number tabs on the right side as this will allow you to keep the mouse/trackpad closer to you.
3. Sit back into support
Find a chair that has some back support, and lean back into it as you use the laptop. From this position it’s easier to keep the head over the centre of gravity rather than slumped forwards. This is even easier if the table/desk you work on is a good height for you.
See – there you go. Some very simple solutions to the slumping issue we see around us all the time. So many people just don’t think to do this. Till now.
Have a healthy and productive day,
